It’s Wedding Season…

In Dental Humor - Oxymoron? on July 20, 2010 at 10:58 PM

Are you looking for that sparkling white smile reminiscent of your favorite TV anchorperson?

How about the perfect complement to that oh so chic spray-on tan?

Ok, maybe not…in fact, please….NO!

But in all seriousness, we get a lot of our patients asking about whitening their smiles around this time of year. So often in fact, we have decided to conduct some purely unscientific, totally unreliable research. The number one reason we have heard – from our friends and families, as to why the majority of patients seem to choose summertime to whiten their teeth – is…drum roll please….an upcoming wedding. Sounds like a good enough reason. After all, it is wedding season…

Yup, it seems like the most celebrated of summertime nuptial get-togethers has a significant impact on the number of tooth whitening procedures we perform in the office.

In honor of this most esteemed time of year, we will be asking you for your input to further our area of extensive study toward this most interesting connection. Please feel free to comment, ask us about teeth whitening options on your next visit, and most importantly please share our most recent scientific findings with your friends and family.

If you are interested in learning more about the whitening options available to you, please visit our website, leave a comment here, drop an email, or simply give us a ring at the office. We’ll be happy to help you navigate your way through the teeth whitening maze craze. And if you’re one of the lucky ones out there to be witnessing matrimonial history this summer, consider how much more confidence you’ll have on the dance floor with that radiant new smile!

Now on to the boring stuff…

The following info on teeth whitening is courtesy of Internet Dental Alliance, Inc:

Procedures vary in both cost and time – depending on the whitening system that is selected by the patient. Some procedures are performed during your normal dental visit, using an in-office system such as laser bleaching, some of these you may have heard about or possibly even seen on TV. These in office methods lighten teeth instantly.

The same results may be obtained more economically through a dentist-supervised at-home bleaching program. Often, these procedures take a bit longer to achieve the desired whitening effects. Even some teeth whitening systems bleach your teeth while you sleep! These often work in 10 to 14 days (or nights). And still others whiten your teeth from two to four hours a day, requiring three to six weeks to complete treatment. There is a virtual menu of options available today.

Also, it’s important to know that certain types of stain respond better to different types of whitening materials. In such cases, your dentist may recommend one method over the other.

The best thing to do is ask us which procedure is best for your particular dental situation!

Tell us your whitening story, we’d love to hear your experience.
